I really, really enjoyed this race. As a new runner, I felt a little out of place and was definitely trailing almost everyone but this course was HARD! It starts out with a hill that is almost a mile long. The upside to the crazy hill at the beginning is that the rest is almost all down hill or flat. I speed walked up the hill and then tried to run the rest straight. I didnt quite do it but I did CRUISE down the hill. I didnt try to slow my momentum at all and just ran as fast as I could down the whole thing. It was pretty fun. I finished in 41.20, averaging 13.18 minute miles. It was 214th overall (just out of the women) and 23rd in my age group, which apparently is 20-24. GO figure! I was SUPER HAPPY with this time! It's not my best time but this course was harder than anything I've trained on and I felt good at the end! My form must be improving because while my legs are tired, they aren't super sore.
GLOW STICKS!!!
Tracy's first 5k!
Me and Dusty, before the race.
All 3 of us before. Our original group was 7 people. But it ended up just being us 3!
one last before pic
About 10 minutes after the end of the race. We had a bet to see who's face would be more red. I think I won, but Tracy said he thought she was darker. I pointed out that her skin tone is naturally way darker than mine so I was a brighter true red... You guys can decide.
Tracy at the end. He finished in 40.37 143rd place over all and 14th in his age group. Not bad for his first run!!
This is my reward... virgin margarita!!!

If I ever was RIDICULOUSLY rich
I would seriously buy these shoes...

and this dress (a few inches longer, and definitely not with those booties... ugh)
and I'd wear them around to clean my house, cause I'd be filthy rich and wouldn't care if I ruined $5000 heels doing dishes or vacuuming.
Or I'd wear them to watch the maid clean.
Either way.

4th of July!
Maddie does this a lot this time of year
There was this whole group of cars with hydraulics, and one of them died right in front of us and had to get jumped, it was awesome!
YAY MENCHIES!!! We love menchies, we go there ALL the time.
This was so cool! The sign says Miss Hotwheels... and she's in a wheelchair!
I love the 4th of July. I love America and I REALLY love fireworks. The 4th of July is one of the only holidays that we have traditions for. We always go to the West Jordan Parade, then have a bbq and fireworks at Tracy's parents house. The parade itself was good, but the people around us were annoying!! Tracy's dad always goes super early and sets up chairs for us so we get a good spot and all these people decided that they didnt want to sit on the sidewalks and sides of the road, they wanted to stand IN the road, the police had to push them back repeatedly, they kept getting closer and closer and closer. It was really annoying because they were blocking our view. Mikey almost got into a fight when one lady started swearing at Tracy's mom. I'm not generally a mean person but this lady... and all of her friends... they were very large people, if you know what I mean. VERY VERY large. I dont usually freak out about little kids running in front of us to grab candy or anything like that but seriously... if you are an adult, and a large adult at that, you had to know you were blocking everyones view. Is grabbing candy really that important? Yes that is seriously why they were that close, so they could grab candy.
After the parade I took a nice nap and then we went over for the bbq. Everyone had grabbed some daytime fireworks, like snaps and snakes and parachutes and smokers and we had fun setting those off while waiting for it to get dark for the big ones. I can't remember how it started but someone taped one of the parachute guys to an exploding ground flower and we became obsessed with trying to blow up the little guys. Tracy's mom donated a bag of little plastic fireman and police officers and we sent them for rides. The best was to strap them to parachutes cause they would just fly into the air. It provided hours of entertainment. But I totally felt like Sid in "Toy Story" I kept waiting for them to come out of the sandbox and freak us all out.

American Fork 5k or Race #2
(yes my face gets that red when I run... so unattractive)
SO this morning was my June race. 7 AM in American Fork, which means I had to wake up at 5:30 AM.
That is insanely early since I didn't fall asleep until around 4 (stupid insomnia.)
I loved this race. The route isn't easy but it was fun. It was nice and cool so perfect to run in. Everybody got a bib (your race number) with a timing chip in it so you didn't have to time yourself. (I did anyways of course) The time posted online for me was 39:48. That is a whole 3.5 minutes faster than my 5k last month AND this course had a HUGE hill. It wasn't very long but it was really steep and slowed me down SO MUCH!
My shins are killing me! It was so hard to push myself through to the end but luckily I caught up with Jaci and we were able to push each other through to the finish, crossing the line exactly together.
I finished 40th in my age group, 254th overall.
Stacey, who was running her first 5k ever, is apparently a master runner and finished in 27:52, 8th in our age group, and 72nd overall. It was amazing!
Julia finished 34:54, 29th in our age group and 192 overall! And the girl just had a baby 4 months ago!!! She even won a prize drawing.
Their food was awesome too. I totally loved it. I might have to make this race an annual thing.
the bad news is, I totally have shin splints... which means no running for at least 3 weeks... There goes my July race!
Definitely not the best but a huge improvement which is what I'm going for.

Running and running and running

I have a new goal people... 6 5k's in 6 months.
that's right.
6 races.
My first 5k ever was in May. My 2nd 5k is tomorrow. I'm signed up for one in August, and a 5 mile run in September, and of course the Zombie Run in October... so that means I need to find one more run in July to accomplish my goal. I'm sure I can find one. I've been training 3 nights a week (at least) and each time I run, I go for a full 5k. I still can't run it straight through but I am getting better.
The second half of my goal is to be able to run the full 5k in October. No walking!
Wish me luck!
