i get bored at work sometimes....

I’m building a wall around my heart
Brick by brick, one day at a time.
To protect it from thoughtlessness
And keep it safe inside.

I need to keep it from being broken,
It’s already so damaged, you see
For I trusted it to someone who
Didn’t care about it, or me.

Cracks and chips mar its soft skin
And one more hit will be the end
So brick by brick, day by day
I try to help my heart to mend.

The road is hard and very long
The bricks are a heavy load
But to help protect my heart
Each day I travel this road.

Once the wall is complete
My heart will be safe inside
Swords and arrows and barbs of hate
Will no longer make me cry

and there I’ll be
alone, but safe
inside my empty heart.
