Be Grateful

So as I sit here today in my glorious funk, reflecting on all of the bad karma that I appear to have coming my way right now, I clicked on a blog that I read daily, and now my whole attitude has changed. Thanks to Erica for posting the words to the song. I really needed to read that right then. Sadly it reduced me to tears at my desk which was slightly embarassing but worth it for the overall lift in sprit. This week has been a challenging one. My babysitter quit (about 20 minutes after she was supposed to be at our house mind you) leaving me sitter-less and second car-less. Our car is having problems, again. Our fabulous family pictures will NOT install on my laptop at home. Our dishwasher has a problem that causes it to repeatedly drain on my carpet rather than down the actual drain. And instead of focusing on everything I DO have, i just keep thinking about all of that. So since its Thanksgiving tomorrow, here is my list of things that I'm Thankful for.

1. My girls. They might be little monsters but I sure do love them. They make me laugh everyday.
2. Tracy. I really dont know what I'd do without him.
3. My job and Tracys job. In all the crazy busy-ness that is the Christmas season I feel more needed than ever. Not to mention that in our faltering economy, my company is doing extremely well thanks to the foresight of our CEO.
4. The church. Now that its back in my life I wonder why I stopped in the first place.
5. My friends. I love you guys!
6. My extended family. Grandpas, Grandma, Aunts, uncles, cousins. I cant even say how much I love you all.
7. Blog stalking. I know it's random but it's nice to know that there are other people in the world with your same problems and concerns. Not to mention its a great way to make new friends!
8. Our Apartment. Its a warm place to live which is more than a lot of people have right now.
9. Books. Ah my sweet escape from reality.
10. The holidays. What a great way to not only reconnect with family and friends, but to sit back and truly evaluate your life and all that you have. Plus I love to decorate my Christmas tree!

Ok I'll stop now because really I could ramble on for quite some time about all of the mundane things that I am Thankful for. Like the headphones I bought last night that are right now providing me with the melodic sounds of my playlist. But I think I'll stop now and go back to reflecing on all the good things I have.

Quirks:
1.I move my fingers like I'm typing when I am thinking in my head or listening to people speak. This is probably what helps make me a fast typer. When I notice myself typing poorly I do this more often to help accuracy.
2.I have to sleep with ear plugs in. I am such a light sleeper that if I dont have ear plugs in I can hear every little creek and groan of the apartment and our neighbors and the girls and the cars outside and I freak out. It has to be quiet.
3.If I ever won millions of dollars in the lottery (wish me luck) I'd fund a homeless shelter and start an animal rescue.
4. My internal monologue is a musical. Seriously. I'm constantly singing in my head. Songs I know, songs I make up, songs I dont know that I make up words too. I'm always stopping myself from spontaneously bursting into song at work, but i dont restrain myself as well at home. Just ask Kelcy.
5. As much as I love sweets Im really not a candy person. Dont get me wrong I enjoy a good snickers as much as anyone else but Id much rather have a rice krispie treat or a cookie or something more substantial.
6. I only like original chips. Like plain potato chips, nacho cheese doritos, original pringles... Why mess up the perfect chip by adding bbq or sour cream flavors to it?

H8ers

Yes i know I just spelled Hate like H8 but that is because this is how all of the protesters lately have been spelling it. In reference to proposition 8. I'm disgusted that LDS churches are being vandalized because this proposition passed so I'm going to post some very interesting numbers for you all. Please pass this to everyone you know and lets see if, together, we can get some of the violence to pass and some of the respect to come back!

In 2000, voters passed ballot initiative Proposition 22 with 61% of the vote, which added a section to the California Family Code to formally define marriage in California as a union between a man and a woman, proposition 8 was simply to reinstate and reinforce what California voters formerly voted on.

It's impractical that the Mormon church be targeted on such a widely voiced issue among all Christian churches. It is well known that Mormons teamed together with a coalition of Catholics and other Christians to back prop 8. (see link) http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/11/09/MNU1140AQQ.DTL

In the aftermath of the recent election, we (LDS) may find ourselves oddly on the defensive regarding our support for the Yes on Proposition 8 cause. Our young people have been especially subject to mean spirited comments by high school friends and teachers. We have nothing to be ashamed of. We did nothing wrong. In fact, we did everything that a civic minded American can and should do. I have put together a few facts that help me to appreciate our position better. For example:

1. Mormons make up less than 2% of the population of California . There are approximately 800,000 LDS out of a total population of approximately 34 million.

2. Mormon voters were less than 5% of the yes vote. If one estimates that 250,000 LDS are registered voters (the rest being children), then LDS voters made up 4.6% of the Yes vote and 2.4% of the total Proposition 8 vote.

3. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) donated no money to the Yes on 8 campaign. Individual members of the Church were encouraged to support the Yes on 8 efforts and, exercising their constitutional right to free speech, donated whatever they felt like donating.

4. The No on 8 campaign raised more money than the Yes on 8 campaign. Unofficial estimates put No on 8 at $38 million and Yes on 8 at $32 million, making it the most expensive non-presidential election in the country.

5. Advertising messages for the Yes on 8 campaign are based on case law and real-life situations. The No on 8 supporters have insisted that the Yes on 8 messaging is based on lies. Every Yes on 8 claim is supported

6. The majority of our friends and neighbors voted Yes on
Los Angeles County voted in favor of Yes on 8. Ventura County voted in favor of Yes on 8.

7. African Americans overwhelmingly supported Yes on 8. Exit polls show that 70% of Black voters chose Yes on 8. This was interesting because the majority of these voters voted for President-elect Obama. No on 8 supporters had assumed that Obama voters would vote No on 8.

8. The majority of Latino voters voted Yes on 8. Exit polls show that the majority of Latinos supported Yes on 8 and cited religious beliefs (assumed to be primarily Catholic).

9. The Yes on 8 coalition was a broad spectrum of religious organizations. Catholics, Evangelicals, Protestants, Orthodox Jews, Muslims – all supported Yes on 8. It is estimated that there are 10 million Catholics and 10 million Protestants in California . Mormons were a tiny fraction of the population represented by Yes on 8 coalition members.

10. Not all Mormons voted in favor of Proposition 8. Our faith accords that each person be allowed to choose for him or her self. Church leaders have asked members to treat other members with "civility, respect and love," despite their differing views.

11. The Church did not violate the principal of separation of church and state. This principle is derived from the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which reads, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . .."
The phrase "separation of church and state", which does not appear in the Constitution itself, is generally traced to an 1802 letter by Thomas Jefferson, although it has since been quoted in several opinions handed down by the United States Supreme Court in recent years. The LDS Church is under no obligation to refrain from participating in the political process, to the extent permitted by law. U.S. election law is very clear that
Churches may not endorse candidates, but may support issues. The Church has always been very careful on this matter and occasionally (not often) chooses to support causes that it feels to be of a moral nature.

12. Supporters of Proposition 8 did exactly what the Constitution provides for all citizens: they exercised their First Amendment rights to speak out on an issue that concerned them, make contributions to a cause that they support, and then vote in the regular electoral process. For the most part, this seems to have been done in an open, fair, and civil way. Opponents of 8 have accused supporters of being bigots, liars, and worse.
The fact is, we simply did what Americans do–we spoke up, we campaigned, and we voted!

I TOTALLY AGREE!

This is one of my big big pet peeves!

Buzz up!Carrie Underwood has a message for Oprah, Diddy, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and even Heidi and Spencer: Don't publicly back candidates for office.

"There is someone I do support, but I don't support publicly," she tells TV Guide, as excerpted by Just Jared. "I lose all respect for celebrities when they back a candidate.

"It's saying that the American public isn't smart enough to make their own decisions," she goes on. "I would never want anybody to vote for anything or anybody just because I told them to.

"Music is where you go to get away from all the BS," adds Underwood, who recently apologized for saying ex Tony Romo still calls her. "Whether it's from politics or just the world around you, music should be an escape."

Kelcy had SO much fun this Halloween! This was the first time she really got into it. It was such a pleasant evening! The turtle neck under her dress was completely unncecessary. It was very warm.
